Today is historic, because Teecycle is making its first ever T-shirt request. It’s on behalf of my friend Tom, who happens to be Republican. Tom is looking for a used John McCain T-shirt that someone no longer needs, and I figured it’s probably not too hard to find that. So to foster bipartisan healing and in an effort to reach across the aisle (dirtiest political term ever), I’m offering a free Teecycle shirt to anyone who sends me a John McCain shirt for Tom. Just email me at tim@teecycle.org for details.
On a similar note, I recently found the John McCain bumper sticker I bought when I voted in 2000. It was with melancholy disappointment that I threw it away. But now I wish I would have kept it, especially considering how McCain brought his campaign to a close. It reminded me of something a president-elect once said long before there were Democrats and Republicans, red states and blue states, or even new T-shirts and used T-shirts:
But every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle. We have called by different names brethren of the same principle. We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists. – Thomas Jefferson

Well, it looks like Teecycle might set another traffic record again today. I kinda have mixed feelings about it all. I’ll feel better when I’m not sleep deprived from packaging Teecycle mailings for all the people around the world who loved recycled T-shirts. But the best news is it’s chalking up more cash for the River Revitalization Foundation.
P.S. if you live in the Milwaukee area, Come to Pecha Kucha tomorrow night to hear my presentation on Teecycle entitled Web Marketing 2.0 for Broke People. The format is 20 slides each 20 seconds long, so boredom is an impossibility. And even if it was, you could just come for the amazing beer, since the event is being held at Sugar Maple. Event starts at 8 p.m. with lots of cool presentations, including one reportedly on styrofoam.
Also, big thanks again to model Littletinyfish, the illustrator who created the new Teecycle logo.

Meet Tonka. His owner is Hannah, the massage therapist at Invivo. Thanks for lending Tonka for the photo shoot, Hannah. Unfortunately, at this point we don’t have any Teecycle dog shirts (Dogcycle?).

Oh no!
Milwaukee Symphony Style, according to its website, is the only New York-style runway presentation offered in Wisconsin. Vera Wang was a designer for some of the shows, apparently. The shredded paper target, however, was designed by a 54 magnum.

If you haven’t seen it already, Teecycle.org got a shout-out in this week’s Savage Love. Now I get to share my Dan Savage story.
A few years ago I interviewed him for this article. During the course of the interview, Dan casually dropped the term “buttfucking” into the conversation to explain a concept in his new book. Prior to this, I’d interviewed minor presidential candidates, an archbishop, Chuck Palahniuk, dairy farmers, Randall Simon after he whacked our weiner, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, and a bunch of other people I forget about. In other words, a broad cross-section of humanity. And to that point in my journalism career, no one had ever casually used the term “buttfucking” in an interview. Until now.
I met Dan when he came to town for a talk and book signing at Harry W. Schwartz. I explained to him about the novelty of the interview for me. He signed the book to my wife and I and wrote, “To Tim and Jess - I hope I was gentle with Tim in his first ‘buttfucking.’ -Dan.”

There are many people who made this t-shirt possible. First there is the local DJs collective known as *No Requests. It was given to me by my friend Dwellephant, who just got married over the weekend to Lady Dwellephant. (Congrats!) The photo was taken by my friend Stef, who has a gallery show this weekend in Milwaukee.

Today I fly back home from Gulf Shores, Alabama. I like Alabama. Especially after I found an unlikely yoga studio — which happened to be the first ever yoga licensed yoga studio in the state. I’m also a big fan of their shrimp Poboy — Alabama’s, not the yoga studios. I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite memories of L.A. (Lower Alabama.)

I found this shirt at a self-serve yard sale somewhere outside of Dodgeville, Wis. (See below) Then I loaded it up on my bike and pedaled it about 150 miles home. So anybody who buys this shirt better be damn appreciative of the extra weight I sacrificed to bring the awesomeness that is Skid Row.

This shirt — which reads Skid Row: Oh Say Can You SCREAM — reminds me of Joey Cirvogel (spelling?), who was an older, bigger, totally-metal neighbor kid growing up. He always wore a Skid Row shirt with a big skull on it, which freaked me out when I was like 5. It would probably freak me out today, too.
Special thanks to Greg for modeling. Best. T-shirt model. EVER.

Nirvana has been my Favorite Band of All-Time since the summer of 1994, when I listened to “Nevermind” in its entirety at Matt Gentz’s birthday sleep-over party. I also stayed up all night, watched Dumb and Dumber, and raced a four-wheeler on foot. It was an epic night and day, let me tell you.
ANYWAY, ever since this shirt was donated by Brew City Tails, I’ve been tempted to have a kid just so they can wear it. It’s slightly too small for me. Instead, my friend Bone’s son Alex graciously modeled. And speaking of Nirvana and babies, here’s what became of that kid from the “Nevermind” cover.
