As a result of multiple lockdowns, a lot of us have struggled with the state of our skin. We haven’t been as exposed to fresh air and our routines have taken a serious hit. Consequently, our water intake may be sporadic, our meals may not be as regular, our sleep pattern may be broken, and our skincare routine has perhaps suffered. However, for the most part, we’re now able to venture out of our houses, but our skin is leaving our confidence lacking.

Though a lot of us are familiar with Ethiopia through charity, what a lot of people don’t know is Ethiopia’s prominence in the skincare sector.  The Ethiopian beauty market is one to watch with all manner of natural solutions that the country has to offer.

Honey Kiss Cleanser

You can make your own honey cleanser by first applying two tablespoons of dark organic honey to your face. You should then use warm water to lather the honey and once your whole face has been treated, you can rinse it off and pat your face dry with a towel. Honey is packed full of nutrients and vitamins that hydrate skin, treat acne, remove scars, and much more. Though this trend started in Ethiopia, it’s since circulated across the world and benefitted people far and wide.

Baobab Oil

The baobab tree grows in Ethiopia and other nearby African countries. Its fruit contains vitamins A, D, E, and F, and oil can be extracted from the seeds to be applied to the skin. Each of these vitamins is effective in healing and reversing damaged skin whilst also improving the elasticity of the skin. In order to apply baobab oil to your skin, you should use one or two drops and massage it into your face. Your face will soon be cleansed, moisturized, and rejuvenated. To reduce dark circles, you can even apply a couple of dabs underneath your eyes overnight.

Avocado Mask

In order to make your own avocado mask, you should combine one avocado with the peel included, with one chopped and peeled tomato. Not only does this sound like a tasty snack, but if it’s applied to the skin and allowed to sit for half an hour, your skin will certainly feel the benefit. Your pores will be cleansed, and your skin will be nourished. In addition to this, the growth of healthy skin cells will be promoted, and damage can be reversed. Avocados are abundant in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. Meanwhile, tomatoes are rich in magnesium, vitamin A and B, and potassium. Once again, this form of skincare is rooted in Ethiopia, though it’s grown in popularity globally.

Lifestyle Choices

Though these cleansers, oils, and masks are good for your skin, you can’t have glowing skin without the correct lifestyle choices. Staying hydrated is among the most important features of caring for your skin. You should drink between six and eight glasses of water each day to remain properly hydrated. Similarly, fruit and vegetables contain lots of water and antioxidants to also cleanse your skin from the inside out.

Furthermore, getting between six and eight hours of sleep per night is also imperative for getting glowing skin. This is because stress reduces your level of cortisol, which is a stress hormone, this is responsible for discoloration, stretch marks, and thinning skin. Additionally, sleep increases melatonin which acts as an antioxidant to fight fine lines and age spots. You should also be sure to apply SPF to your face every day regardless of the temperature, as the sun is detrimental to your skin’s health.
