Bangkok is a sprawling metropolis with something to offer absolutely everyone. Then again, with so much choice, how does one decide on where to live in Bangkok? If you are thinking about making the move but you are having trouble deciding on an area that suits you, this article will help; we’re going to talk about some important factors to consider when choosing an area to live in in Bangkok.

1.   The traffic

Bangkok drivers spend, on average, 64-hours a year sitting in a traffic jam. So, while Bangkok is certainly one of the greatest places to live, it also has some of the worst traffic in the world, which is an important consideration when choosing an area to live.

Naturally, you wouldn’t want to live right in the middle of the Central Business District. Ideally, you will want to live in a neighbourhood that has a nice proximity to your place of work and the surrounding schools if you have children.

2.   Property prices in Bangkok

It is important to remember that the prices for property in Bangkok varies significantly from one area to the next. As such, you should do plenty of research into the different areas in Bangkok, just in case you end up selecting the most expensive with no good reason.

For example, Chit Lom is one of the most expensive areas, with Sathorn and Sukhumvit coming up as a close second and third.

Weigh up the pros and cons and ensure that if you are going to pay the higher price tag, that you have all of the local amenities and in-house facilities that you need.

3.    Public transport

While Bangkok is certainly a nightmare for traffic, it does have some of the best public transport in the world. In fact, with the BTS Skytrain and MRT, you can make it from one end of the city to the other in as little as 30-minutes. In the same breath, there are plenty of motorcycle taxis and tuk tuks that can help you get around with relative ease.

So, when choosing an area to live in Bangkok, you should try and make sure that you are as close to one of the main BTS stations as possible, and that there are plenty of motorcycle taxis nearby for when you are in a rush. A great example of this is Ashton Asoke; being located in one of the most connected neighbourhoods in the city.

4.    Restaurants and nightlife

You want to live in an area that has plenty of life! On Nut is an example of an up-and-coming neighbourhood that has cheaper property prices and much in the way of bars and restaurants. Certainly, it is easy enough to get around Bangkok, but it’s nice having some local spots you can enjoy without having to venture too far.

5.    Green space

Bangkok is an amazing city with plenty of beauty, but your isolation from nature can become tiresome after a while. This is why it is important that you choose an area to live in Bangkok that has plenty of parks and green space for you to enjoy.

Conclusion

Whether looking for a viable location to flip real estate for profit, or you want to find a nice neighbourhood to settle down in and have a family, it is important that you do plenty of research before making any final commitments.
