Moving is a tiring and emotionally draining thing to deal with for most people. There are seemingly endless things to do, plan, organise, research and schedule and it almost feels like forgetting something is inevitable.
However, all is not lost and there is hope for you! Getting started early can play a huge role in making sure that no stone is left unturned, everything is planned carefully and you don’t run into any last-minute panic moments. Here are four moving tasks that you might have forgotten – add them to your checklist to be sure they get done.
Keep It Simple
When you’re packing up your house, you need to put some thought into the process. Simply throwing everything into a box and hoping for the best might feel like the simplest solution, but that could very well overcomplicate things for you when it’s time to unpack.
Use your packing process as an excuse to declutter and simplify things. Sell or donate items that don’t need a place in your new home and travel with fewer possessions. You can also keep the packing process simple by getting your boxes for free from restaurants or grocery stores, and doing the job room by room.
Moving Your Car
Getting your car to your new home might be something you need to plan. Of course, if you’re simply moving to a nearby neighbourhood, this won’t be a problem. However, relocating might create the question of how to get your vehicle there.
In some cases, such as a very long-distance move, auto transport might be your best option. This will save the wear and tear you’d put on your car from an extreme road trip and will also save you a lot of time and effort. If you’re only moving a few hours away, a road trip should be fine. People who move to a new country will often choose to sell their vehicles instead.
Hooking Up Your Internet
In 2022, having a Wi-Fi connection is almost as important as having running water in our homes. Most of us need the internet to stay connected to our friends and families and, even more importantly, to do our jobs. This makes getting your internet set up as soon as possible a top priority.
Remember that you’ll need to communicate with your internet provider a few weeks before the move to either cancel or schedule for them to help you move your connection. If you cancel it, you’ll also need to get yourself set up with a new provider at the new house.
Research Your New Area
Getting to know your new area is an important task to put on your list, even if it doesn’t feel as pressing as everything else you have to get done. Feeling comfortable in your city is important for mental health, so try to do some research early on.
In fact, you can do all your research before you move, and plan everything from the comfort of your current home – easy peasy.
