Why Is Choosing The Right Type Of First Aid Necessary?

For any emergency response team to be at the scenes of accidents could vary largely depending on the accessibility of the location of the incident.

Notwithstanding, the average response time of emergency services is 7 minutes. While it takes only 4 minutes to die from a heart attack, a blocked airway could kill within 4 minutes and loss of blood, choking and shock may be too fatal and result in death before medical help comes. But having the relevant first aid training will ensure that your timely intervention can be the difference between living and dying. And this training is largely influenced by your environment, work requirement, and working conditions.

Types Of First Aid Training Courses

As said earlier, there are different types of first aid training such as childcare first aid training, emergency first aid, and babysitter first aid course. Below are the two main types of first aid training.

  • Emergency First Aid Training
  • Standard First Aid Training

Emergency First Aid Training

This training course is mostly run in one day and it involves all basic aspects of first aid training. You will undergo all the training and equip yourself with the skills necessary to effectively respond to emergencies in low-hazard environments.

By completing the course, you will be able to know what to do in any type of emergency first aid situation such as cuts, burns, broken bones, shock, and bleeding. Also, you will learn how to carry out CPR, various recovery positions and how to apply bandages and treat wounds.

Standard First Aid Training

This training course is required by many employers and relevant to large or high hazard work environments. The standard first aid training course provides for more thorough first aid knowledge and practical skills.

This course covers training in emergency first aid and also includes additional training on dealing with different minor and major illnesses. You should be able to understand after the training what to do in situations of spinal injuries, faints, chest pains, cardiac arrest, heart attack, and other medical issues that can arise at a workplace.

Choosing The Right Types Of First Aid Training

As said earlier, your first aid training is mainly scheduled to focus on the expected accidents, emergencies, and injuries that are likely to occur in your workplace or your day-to-day activities.

While some businesses may require standard first aid training due to the low level of hazard risk in the work environment, some will specifically require standard first aid training as the hazard level in the workplace is quite high. An example of this is a workplace having more than 50 employees.  Also, some work environments might require the combination of the two training such as warehouse, factory works, or construction sites.

Lastly, certain work environments like nurseries may require special first aid training. As they are dealing with infants and small kids, your first aid training should be tailored for first aid for children. Also, outdoor activity centers will require extra first aid provision due to the remoteness of their location and how long it would take medical assistance or emergency services to arrive.

In a nutshell, different types of first aid training are activity-specific and could improve your first aid skills in specific emergency areas.
