Review of web series Paurashpur
This story is about the kingdom that is ruled by Annu Kapoor (Bhadra Pratap Singh). In this kingdom, women are treated as objects to follow the instructions of men and fulfil their sexual desires. Here, women have no rights and even no standing in society; they are considered only as slaves of men. Shilpa Shinde (Meerawati), the king’s first wife, sees to it that his carnal cravings are satisfied so they can give him young queens to appease him, but suddenly they all disappear from the palace. With the entry of Milind Soman (Boris), who was transgender, the king feels uncomfortable.
This seven-part series of Paurashpur brought together many ingredients, such as a good setup, a strong background, and great casting. No matter how good its ingredients were, the final dish was not satisfying and turned out to be less inviting. Each and every episode of this web series winds up unexpectedly, but the depiction of the 16th century through beautiful sets and amazing costumes deserves praise. The story has so much to convey, but the efforts of the cast look like half-hearted commitments. Milind Soman, who has played the role of Boris, a transgender man, is the only one who is saving the show. He is the only one who has made some decent efforts to behave as a transgender person.
Talking about the roles of Annu Kapoor and Shilpa Shinde, they have also done pretty well, but not as per expectations. Overall speaking, the cast and characters of this web series failed to leave a mark and were not that attractive. The failure of this web series, Paurashpur, is certainly because the writing lacks depth. If the writer could have worked some harder and the cast had tried to play the role in a more perfect manner, then this series could have made a hit.
Synopsis of the web series Paurashpur
Paurashpur is the tale of an outcast who opposes the mighty monarch and his realm, where people are treated as property and forced to live as slaves. Set in the 17th century, the story of Paurashpur is abounding with political conspiracies, politics of gender, human greed, discrimination, and revenge. This web series explores a web of lies and deceit among the higher people of the kingdom as it tells the tale of the kingdom of Paurashpur. While the higher people follow the deceit, everyone else is trying to claim the throne.
Here, men wanted to reduce the assertiveness of every other sex. The men of Paurashpur actually wanted to use every other sex as mere resources to fulfil their needs and assert themselves at the top of the pyramid. If any other sex fails to follow the rules of men, then that could lead to the most unfortunate end. The kingdom of Paurashpur is led by their king, Bhadrasen, who is a man of adamant beliefs and dark scenes. In that kingdom of men, where only they could make the rules or break them too,
Women have to face a lot of challenges, both emotionally and physically, to survive in a man’s world. Despite the fact that women’s teams had one of the most crucial players, Queen Meerawati, on their team, they always seemed to be on the losing end of this men’s game. The story sees the women find their own truth, be it in terms of love or sexual liberation. In a game of their own making, the women over there have to choose to fight the power of men.
Apart from this black and white world of Paurashpur, there exists one other world, i.e., the grey world, that was outside the reach of the king as well as his sexist philosophies. That grey world is never far enough to escape reality; it is the only world that will either make or break the realities of either gender. Grey World is the type of resolution that is highly needed and is deserved by Paurashpur.
Conclusion
A story like that of Paurashpur needed a labour of love from the writers because their story has a huge scope and is very attractive and promising. According to this web series, there are various elements that need to reach the audience, but due to the lazy writings of Baljit Singh Chaddha, Singh Ranveer Pratap Singh, and Rajesh Tripathi, everything failed, and Paurashpur became a show that you want to totally avoid.
