Looking for something to watch? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Since we all are stuck at home, social recommendation sites and applications like Friendspire have been growing fast and helping those bored or stressed out of their minds (most of us, probably). For those who haven’t discovered Friendspire’s content and dining recommendation platform, it’s not uncommon to see an Instagram story asking you to “drop your movie/book (or anything at all) suggestions” to searching continuously online for the “top one hundred films of all time”.
Although watching together with friends may be different under these circumstances from what we have been used to, let us not forget that this is a small sacrifice not just for ourselves but for the health of everyone around us. Besides, nothing can ruin a movie date, especially if you chose a wonderful companion, some really good snacks, and of course, one really great film!
And who else to search for when you are uncertain and undecided on what to watch but Leonardo DiCaprio, right? Right! Yes, what could go wrong with choosing one of Leo’s films? Romance? Well, The Great Gatsby got you covered. Need a good cry over a drama? Weep with me over Titanic. Comedy? The Wolf of Wall Street will make you laugh (and then stressed) for sure. Science fiction? Here’s Inception for you. Thriller? Get ready to be stuck on Shutter Island – which is probably the reason you are here, though (so I’m sorry for taking 3 paragraphs before mentioning what you actually searched for). Anyway, all right, I’ll get on with it!
Since you probably stumbled upon this article after watching Inception, let’s first start with these movies like Inception.
But, if you’re on a Leonardo DiCaprio or “complicated, mind-blowing” movies train, let me convince you to watch Shutter Island. Okay, here I go. Although Rotten Tomatoes rated the film 68% while the audience’s score is 76%, here me out first!
Here goes the Shutter Island synopsis: Shutter Island is a Rated R drama, mystery and thriller film released in 2010. It was directed by Martin Scorsese, produced by Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Bradley J. Fischer, and Martin Scorsese as well. On the other hand, it was written by Dennis Lehane. Its lead actors are Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Michelle Williams.
The film was set in the year 1954 and follows the story of Leonardo DiCaprio who plays the character U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, while Ruffalo plays Leo’s new partner, Chuck Aule. The two were brought to Ashecliffe Hospital, an insane asylum located on an isolated island, by the escape of a murderess. This murderess seemed to have vanished into thin air. While trying to solve the mystery, the two detectives were forced to face their own fears while trying to escape while at the same time, discovering various terrible deeds done inside the asylum.
Shutter Island got 11 awards and a total of 66 nominations. Some of the awards won by the film are Awards Circuit Community Awards’ Best Art Direction and The Next Ten Best Picture Contenders (Honorable Mention).
But, if by some chance, you finished watching this first instead of Inception, well… that’s okay too! They both are top rated films made to satisfy your curiosity or give you a headache with their complicated plotlines anyway. If you are here trying to search for an article explaining Shutter Island’s ending, I’m sorry. We all have to rely on online fans writing “Shutter Island explained” blogs right now. In the meantime, keep yourself busy with movies like Shutter Island and stop obsessing over its ending. We all can’t explain it yet either.
