Do you ever stop and ask about the elderly mental health issues?

Not very often, I believe!

Well, it is high time that you start doing it. How about you start with the elderly loved ones who you are residing with especially with the large growth of the elderly population in Fairfield.

Maybe older parents or grandparents.

Are you able to fulfill everything that they need?

No, we are not talking about the basic necessities like food, clothing, and lodging.

We are talking about a safe environment which will have constant company.

Clinical depression is getting very common among old people who are unable to cope with their environment after the death of a spouse.

This is why you need to put them under constant care.

It Is Okay!

Not always will you be able to take care of your elderly parents, and we shouldn’t feel guilty for having a job or our own family.

However, the least you can do is try to understand whether they are okay and, if needed, enroll them in good elderly home care.

Yes, we all have a very negative connotation related to elderly home care.

One of the biggest stereotypes is that children who do not care about their parents or grandparents leave them in-home care.

But that could be far from true.

Elderly care is nothing but a caring and nurturing facility that will also take care of their medical needs.

Signs Your Elderly Loved Ones May Need Home Care

Here are some of the tell-tale signs that your elderly grandparents or parents might need home care.

1. Home Where They Are Alone

Are they alone at home?

No matter how strong they sound, you are supposed to keep checking and get time to time updates.

They are either indeed your care or constant in-home care. So it is not just about diseases or them not being able to do things on their own.

It is about the company, and if god forbids something happens, you will have someone to inform you immediately.

2. A Death Of A Spouse

The death of a spouse can leave many elderly in a state of impending doom which can cause clinical depression if you do not take the right step at the right time.

They had a constant companion for years, and now there is not a single soul who even listens to them, forget understanding.

It is a big deal!

They will need in-home care or even need to go to separate home care where they will find like-minded people.

3. Aging Diseases

No matter the worldly experiences from our aging, we can never combat the ailments that come with aging.

Your elder parents could also be suffering from these ailments, and you don’t even know.

Home care will ensure that these aging diseases are either medically or clinically treated.

4. Mobility Issues

Are they having arthritis issues or dementia?

These diseases can cause severe mobility issues, and being bedridden all day without proper company or help can give rise to many mental health issues.

In a home care facility, the first and foremost thing is that the staff ensure that they are happy and feel content in the environment.

So, even if they have mobility issues, there are people who can help them.

5. They Have A Messy Home/Room

What is the condition of their room?

Are they hoarding? Or, unable to clean it for ages?

Do you find them taking zero care about their hygiene, to say the least?

This either means they are unable to clean it themselves because of some physical ailment, or they are mentally ill to even give the mess another thought.

Clutter is not good; they need some help.

Give The Elderly Some Company!

Don’t jump to immediate conclusions that they are affected with a serious ailment. It could be mental, and what they need could be company.

This is why elderly care homes or at-home caregivers are the best decision for your elderly loved ones.

They are in the last stage of their life; make them live it and not just survive!
