1. As an Avatar of Lord Shiva, Pawanputra Hanuman is revered as an example of strength, dedication, and tenacity.
Anjana, a stunning Apsara in Lord Brahma’s divine palace court, was sworn by a scholar that, at the point, she found her love, her face would convert into a monkey’s face. Lord Brahma was supposed to help her and she was born on this earth. After that, Anjana and the monkey king Kesari marry each other and Anjana falls in love with him. Being an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, she continued her tapasya to please God because she was a pure and devoted follower of Lord Shiva. As she wanted to be released from the sage’s curse so she hoped he was her son and Lord Shiva was impressed by her devotion.
After a few days, the sage handed King Dasrath Kheer to feed all of his wives. Kaushlya his eldest wife, had her portion grabbed by a kite that flew in the direction where Anjana was meditating. Lord Vayu (also known as Pawan – Wind) on the indication of Lord Shiva retained the kheer in the hands of Anjana. Anjana consumed that kheer as she believed it is a prasad of Lord Shiva and gave birth to Pawan Putra Hanuman and also the son of Wind’s lord.
2. For Lord Rama’s long life, the divinity once spread sindoor all over his body.
Lord Hanuman has extreme devotion toward Lord Rama. One incident happened when Sita applied sindoor on her forehead, and asked why she was applying by Hanuman. She answered that as she is the companion and wife of Lord Rama, the sindoor was a symbol of her eternal love, respect, and devotion. After hearing this Hanuman then coated his whole body with sindoor to demonstrate his devotion and unconditional love for Lord Rama. As a result, Lord Rama got impressed by this and gave a boon that those in the future who devoted Lord Hanuman with Sindoor would notice all their problems go away.
3. The name, ‘Hanuman’ truly means ‘disfigured jaw’ in Sanskrit.
In the Sanskrit language ‘Hanu’
stands for ‘Jaw’, and ‘Man’ stands for ‘Disfigured’. No surprise, when Hanuman was a child his jaw was disfigured by Lord Indra who had utilised his vajra (thunderbolt) against Hanuman, who had mistaken the sun for a ripe mango and even gone to trace it in the sky. Lord Indra had utilised his vajra there in the sky to throw Hanuman down to Earth, permanently breaking his jaw.
4. Lord Hanuman had a son – Makardhwaja, although he was Brahmachari.
Son of Hanuman MakardKhwaja was born to a powerful fish of a similar name, after burning all the Lanka when Hanuman dipped his tail in the ocean to cool himself. It is told that his sweat was engulfed by the fish and therefore Makardhwaja was created.
5. Once, Lord Ram gave a death sentence to Lord Hanuman!
When the court was suspended after Lord Ram had become the King, Narada—who was infamous for the persuading battle between Ram and Hanuman—asked Hanuman to greet everyone but not Vishwamitra because he was a King once. Hanuman did so, but Vishwamitra
was unchanged.
Narada continued and initiated Vishwamitra, so he became enraged that he rushed to Ram and requested him to kill Hanuman. Being his guru, Vishmamitra, Ram was unable to disobey his order and shot Hanuman with arrows to death. The statement was to be carried out the following day in the field, but Hanuman kept chanting “Ram” thus none of the arrows could even touch him!
Since Ram had to keep his Guru’s word, he chose to utilize the Brahmastra. To the surprise of all, Again Hanuman starts chanting the name of Ram, and this shocks all because the strong Brahmastra failed. After watching this, Narada rushed to Vishwamitra and admitted his mistake, ending the tragedy.
6. Hanuman also designed his version of Ramayan – which was an exceptional version in comparison to that of Valmiki.
After the battle in Lanka, Hanuman
travelled to the Himalayas to continue showing his respect for Lord Ram. Hanuman inscribed his interpretation of Ram’s story on the walls with his nails of the Himalayas.
When Maharshi Valmiki went to see Hanuman to present his version of Ramayana, he saw the walls and felt sad as Valmiki believed that Hanuman’s Ramayana was prominent and that his strenuously made interpretation of the Ramayana would remain unseen. Hanuman disposed of his version after realising this. Valmiki surprisingly declared that he would pray to be reborn and proclaim the greatness of Hanuman!
7. Lord Bhima and Lord Hanuman were both brothers.
Bhima was also Vayu’s son. (the Lord of the Winds). When Bhima was looking for a flower for his wife one day, he noticed a monkey crossing the path while sleeping. He was told to move his tail. However, the monkey did not listen to him and instructed Bhima to move it instead. With his power, Bhima showed a lot of arrogance. However, he was incapable of moving or elevating the tail. As a result, he figured out that this was not merely a normal monkey. None other than Hanuman was there. He told an untruth there only to decrease the superiority of Bhima.
8. When Lord Hanuman realised that Lord Rama’s time to die was approaching, he forbade Yama from claiming him.
Lord Rama knew that Hanuman, who was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, would not permit him to abandon his earthly existence to travel to Vaikuntha (Lord Vishnu’s celestial home). He gave Hanuman the task of discovering his lost ring, which was first dropped to the ground and then vanishing in the Patal Loka. The King of Spirits discovered Hanuman as he was searching for the ring. He explained to Hanuman that the ring’s fall signalled the end of Lord Ram’s avatar.
9. Once, Lord Hanuman Rejected the gift of Goddess Sita.
When Sita provided Hanuman with a lovely pearl chain as a blessing he humbly refused it and told her that he would not take anything if it was not connected to Ram’s name. To verify his truth, the prominent devotee then pulled off his chest to uncover a picture of both Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
10. The explanation behind the name of Lord Hanuman is “Bajrangbali”
The story of Lord Hanuman when he spread sindoor on his whole body for the prolonged age of Lord Ram. As sindoor is also known as “Bajrang”, Lord Hanuman was also named “Bajrangbali” from that day and
that’s also the reason Sindoor is put on him whenever he is worshipped.
