Body butter is made with butter and oils, which makes it susceptible to melting when exposed to a high temperature. It provides the right moisture for the skin and also treats dermatological conditions. It’s mostly used to prevent dry skin.
There are ways you can prevent your body butter from turning into a fluidity state. This will save you the stress of causing a mess in your butter jar.
It doesn’t matter if you are making your body butter, transporting it, or trying to maintain it, there are ways to prevent the melting.
How do you keep body butter from melting?
You can prevent your body butter from melting in its reformulation, transport, and storage. These are the ways:
- Use of shea butter
Shea butter is known to have a high melting point. This is why it is included in the formulation of almost all body butter. It doesn’t melt until the temperature reaches 45°C. And it is cool for the skin.
To reformulate your body butter, add shea butter to it. This will ensure that your body butter doesn’t melt easily.
- Use of coconut oil
It has a melting point of about 26°C. If you use it as a main ingredient in your body butter reformulation, it solidifies and slows down the rate of melting. Coconut oil makes the skin smooth.
The solid form of coconut oil is better than the liquefied one because it has a higher melting point.
- Beeswax
This is also a great ingredient you can use for your body butter. It doesn’t melt until it reaches the temperature of 62°C. If you add it to your body butter, it will make it hard.
To avoid much hardness, melt your body butter before you put the beeswax.
- Mango butter
Mango butter has a high melting point of 30°C. If you use it as a main ingredient in your body butter, it will prevent it from melting quickly.
Note that this butter does not have a mango smell. Although it is made from mango seed, it smells sweet and fatty.
- Insulating bag
When you want to transport your body butter, put it in an insulating bag. The insulating bag can be a bubble wrap or thermal insulating bag. And seal with tape.
You can get bubble wrap around packing supply stores. This helps to protect your body butter from melting rapidly.
- Ice cubes
In case of transportation, put ice cubes around the body butter in the pack. This provides a cold temperature, which maintains the solid form of your body butter.
- Store in a fridge
If you notice that your body butter has melted, put it in the fridge for 1hour to solidify. And if you want to ship your butter to another place, let it stay in the fridge till it’s time for packaging.
This will provide a cooling and soothing effect for your body butter.
- Keep out of sunlight
When your body butter is exposed to direct sunlight, it can melt easily irrespective of having a high melting point. You want to keep it away from sunlight to avoid melting.
