As the popularity in superhero media has increased steadily throughout the past decade, many viewers may find themselves looking for something a bit more relatable and unique. If you are in search of the next exciting superhero series, look no further than “Stargirl,” a new series from the DC Universe and the CW.
Stargirl is adapted from the DC comics universe, her first appearance being in the comic Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. in July of 1999. Know more about her character by getting a copy of the comic book from an online comic books store. The television series has been brought to viewers by executive producer Geoff Johns. “Stargirl” follows lead character Courtney Whitmore, whose move to a small Nebraska town causes her to uncover the mystery surrounding the father she hasn’t seen in 10 years, and the person — or hero — she is meant to become.
What To Expect From the Pilot
In the beginning, viewers see an intense action sequence, during which the superhero Starman fights evil foes and ultimately dies as a consequence. However, he first tells Pat Dugan — his sidekick, affectionately called “Stripesy” — that the Cosmic Staff must end up in the hands of someone worthy one day, to continue the legacy of the Justice Society of America.
A flashforward introduces us to Courtney Whitmore, a sassy and moody teen. Unhappy to be moving with her mother, stepfather Pat, and stepbrother, she relocates with her family to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Courtney has an awkward first day at school. She ends up sitting at the “singles” table, a table for losers, before eventually shoving a jock while trying to defend a girl at the table whom the boy had been harassing.
Later in the episode, Courtney ventures down into the basement of their new home, discovering among Pat’s things a photo of a table of superheroes, and a strange, glowing staff. The staff seems to have its own personality, a quirky language of chirps, buzzes, and light. Courtney is pulled out of the house and guided by the staff, eventually finding the same jocks from lunch at a drive-in movie, antagonizing another poor soul.
As she attempts to remove the air from their car’s tires — a car that belongs to the bully’s dad — the staff takes on a life of its own, helping Courtney to beat up the bullies and eventually causing the car to explode. After returning home with the staff, she confronts Pat about who he really is: the sidekick to Starman. She speculates whether Starman was her father and promises to let Pat keep the secret from her mom if he “stays out of her way.” Later, Courtney is attacked by the father of the jock, who happens to be one of the villains responsible for the death of Starman.
What To Look Forward To
This series promises interesting characters, an emotional backstory, and the coming-of-age of a teenage girl who discovers her destiny to become a hero.
