A Quick Guide To This Complex And Fascinating Character

The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha is one of the most iconic characters in Naruto Shippuden. In fact, his bonding with Naruto (the lead character) really is the inciting incident of the whole show.

The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha is the most powerful of the Tailed Beasts created by the Sage of Six Paths.  

Today, we are going to give you a quick guide to this character and its role in the show. It will contain spoilers – you have been warned.

How Was The Nine-Tailed Beast Created? 

The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha was created by Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, also known as the Sage of Six Paths. 

In his earlier days, the Sage had defeated the Ten-Tails beast (who was also his mother) and sealed it inside himself to prevent the beast from destroying the world. 

As he was dying and no longer strong enough to contain the beast inside himself, he split the beast into 9 weaker beings – one of which was The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha. 

Many years later, The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha attacked the town of Konoha. During the battle, the beast became sealed inside the body of a baby boy.  Nobody knew where the Nine-Tailed beast had gone until 12 years later. 

Personality 

The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha does not like to be ruled by a master. It has a deep sense of loathing for the two masters we see it has in the show – Naruto and Minato. 

The Fox is incredibly powerful and is arguably malevolent and sadistic if not completely evil. He is a destructive being who feels little remorse. 

It is impossible not to notice how sarcastic the Fox is, and that he is smarter than most of the others around him. 

When the show first starts, he hates Naruto but soon goes to realize that while they are bound together they will share the same fate. 

Is The Nine-Tailed Beast Powerful? 

Of the Tailed Beasts, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha is the most powerful. But he is not as powerful as the Ten-Tailed beast. Ten-Tails is the most powerful creature in the Naruto universe. 

When not contained inside a human, the Nine-Tailed beast could flatten a mountain with just one of its tails or cause a tsunami. 

However, until Naruto grows powerful enough to complete his destiny, the power level of the Nine-Tailed fox is significantly decreased. This is because he is sealed inside a young boy. 

The Seal 

The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox of Konoha was sealed inside of the body of a baby boy (our hero Naruto) using a Dead Demon Consuming Seal. 

This seal allows Naruto to tap into the powers of the Fox when he is older and more experienced. 

Later we learn that when Minato sealed the demon inside Naruto, he split the chakra of Nine-Tails into Yin and Yang. Yang was sealed inside Naruto and Yang was locked away from the boy inside the Dead Demon Consuming Seal. 

The more that Naruto draws from the chakra of Nine-Tails, the weaker the seal inside of him grows. 

What Is Its Relationship With Naruto?  

When he is first sealed inside Naruto, Nine-Tails hates him and Minato (the man who sealed him inside Naruto). 

As time goes on, Naruto begins to learn how dangerous Nine-Tails really is. While this happens, the respect that Nine-Tails had for Naruto grows. 

Eventually, Naruto rejects the chakra of Nine-Tails because of his evil plans and because Naruto has no desire to let Nine-Tails escape. This drives a rift between the pair. 

Ultimately, Nine-Tails knows that if Naruto dies he will die too. So, it is in his greater interest to make sure that Naruto is successful and isn’t killed. 

Powers And Abilities 

As the Nine-Tails’ Jinchūriki, Naruto has a huge range of abilities. These include accelerated healing, impressive strength, unending stamina, improved speed, and access to a near-infinite well of chakra. 

With the help of Nine-Tails, Naruto seems to have no limit on how often he can perform his signature Jutsu Shadow Clone Technique. He is also able to summon Gamabunta much earlier than most other people with his power level. 

If Naruto loses control of his emotions, he can become more like Nine-Tails. He will attack in a more animalistic way, with more power, and less remorse. Every time that he does this, his lifespan grows shorter and the seal grows weaker. 

It is believed that if he completely loses control of his emotions, Nine-Tails will be set free.
